Can I deduct medical, dental, and vision expenses?

If you itemize deductions, include expenses you paid during the year for medical, dental, and vision care for yourself, your spouse, and your dependents. Your deduction is limited to the amount of expenses over 7.5% (this will increase to 10% after December 31, 2012 due to the new health care law) of your adjusted gross income.

If you take the standard deduction, you cannot deduce these expenses on your federal return, but some states will allow you to deduct them on your state return. Don't worry, TurboTax will figure all of this out for you.
