Can I deduct Medicare premiums withheld from pay?

Medicare withheld from your pay or paid through self-employment tax is considered a tax, not an insurance premium. You cannot deduct taxes imposed by any government unit as a medical expense. However, if you are not covered under Social Security and voluntarily enroll in Medicare A, you can include these premiums as a medical expense.
