Error: "TurboTax can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer"
When attempting to open a downloaded version of TurboTax on Mac OS X 10.8 (Mountain Lion), you receive the message:
TurboTax can't be opened because it is from an unidentified developer. Your security preferences allow installation of only apps from the Mac App Store and identified developers.
Note: TurboTax 2011 and earlier tax year versions are not supported on the recently-released Mountain Lion. Although the workaround will let you open TurboTax, please be aware that the program may continue to exhibit unusual behavior.
- Go into your System Preferences, click the Security & Privacy option, and then click the Lock icon to make changes.
- Under the section Allow applications downloaded from, select the last option, Anywhere.
- Open TurboTax.
- (Optional) After successfully opening TurboTax, go back to Step 1 if you wish to change it back to the original setting. TurboTax will continue to operate normally.
