Using the Capital Gains (Losses) Speed Entry Worksheet to enter stock transactions

If you have stock transactions involving collectibles, expired stock options, worthless or bankrupt securities, or personal losses from non-investment property, you may find it easier to enter them directly on the Capital Gains (Losses) Speed Entry Worksheet instead of the TurboTax interview.

This worksheet is only accessible in the TurboTax CD/Download software, as TurboTax Online doesn't support Forms mode.

To use the worksheet:

  1. With your return open, click Forms in the upper right (Windows) or upper left (Mac) corner.
  2. Select Open Form, and then type Capital Gain Speed Entry Wks to find the worksheet. Once located, open it.
  3. On Line 4a: Type of transaction, select the letter code that corresponds to your transaction. The lines you need to fill out will turn pink.
  4. After completing the worksheet, switch back to interview mode by clicking Step-by-Step in the upper right or left corner.

Do not file the Speed Entry Worksheet with the IRS but do keep it with your tax records.
