Updated: 2/21/2013
Article ID: SLN66944
There was an issue where the "wash sale" adjustment is not being included in the calculation of a gain or loss for some stock sales.
If the purchase information is entered as a "summary" for single stock sale, where the stocks were purchased at different times (Multiple Lots)
Then the "wash sale" adjustment was not included in the calculation of the gain or loss
Who Was Affected?
If the stock sale includes all of the following your may be impacted by this issue:
- The 1099-B contains an amount in Box 5 for Wash sale
- The stock involved in the sale was purchased at separate times (Multiple Lots)
- The "Purchase Information" is entered as "Summary" information
Workaround:
- On the "Enter Your Purchase Information" Screen (Displayed below)
- Select "I will enter the detail for each purchase and reinvested dividends"
- Enter the details for each stock purchase involved in the sale
- Complete the interview for the stock sale
- The wash sale adjustment will now be included in the calculation of the gain or loss
