What is Form 1099-DIV?
Form 1099-DIV is the official form for reporting your dividend income to you (and to the IRS). A payer is required to send you this information by February 1 of the current tax year. Sometimes a payer will send you some sort of substitute statement that provides you the same information a 1099-DIV would. You just enter that information into TurboTax as though it came from on an official 1099-DIV.
If you received a broker's statement or consolidated statement from your brokerage firm, enter the name of the firm as the payer of dividends. You do not have to separate dividend payments according to individual company or holding.
