Error 1603: "A fatal error occurred during installation or updating"

This error can occur when the Microsoft .NET Framework Installer cannot install and/or update your system. Possible causes include:

• Damaged Windows file and folder permissions
• Damaged Windows Registry key permissions
• Damaged Microsoft .NET Framework installation

If error 1603 occurs while updating TurboTax, your best bet is to download and install a manual update.

Otherwise, for 1603 installation errors:

1. Download and run the .NET Utility Tool.
2. Restart your computer.
3. Install and/or reinstall TurboTax.
4. If the error persists:
   1. Download and run the .NET Verification Tool to determine which version of .NET is damaged.
   2. Repair the damaged version of .NET.
   3. Install and/or reinstall TurboTax.
