Using Windows Update to keep your system up-to-date

Windows Update is a Microsoft service that scans your system to identify, download, and install updates for Windows as well as other components required by TurboTax, such as the .NET Framework and Windows Installer.

Using Windows Update helps ensure that your system is up-to-date with the latest security and performance enhancements, and is a recommended troubleshooting step if you're having problems installing TurboTax for Windows.

To access Windows Update, follow the instructions below or visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com in Internet Explorer 5 or higher.

Windows 7 and Vista

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update.
  2. Click the Check for Updates button.
  3. Click the Install Updates button.

You may need to repeat these steps until all available updates are installed.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update. If prompted, allow the Windows Update Web Control to install.
  2. Click the Express button.
  3. Click the Install Updates button.

You may need to repeat these steps until all available updates are installed.
