Error Code 17866691423 is displayed when installing TurboTax
In certain instances, Error Code 17866691423 is displayed when attempting to install TurboTax CD/Download software.

Installing TurboTax CD on Windows 7 or Vista
- Insert the TurboTax CD into the CD drive. If a message appears, click Cancel or No.
- If you receive a User Account Control message asking, “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” select “No”.
- On the Windows taskbar on your desktop, click Start, and then select All Programs then select Accessories then select Run.
- In the Run window, click Browse, select the Setup.exe file on the TurboTax CD, and click Open.
- Place your cursor right after the last “e” in the Open field, add a space, then type /s.
- Click OK.
TurboTax will install itself with no graphical interface and use its defaults as follows:
- Install Folder: C:\Program Files\TurboTax
- Updates: Automatic
Installing TurboTax CD on Windows XP

- If you receive a User Account Control message asking, “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” select “No”.
- On the Windows taskbar on your desktop, click Start, and then select Run.

Download TurboTax to your desktop. See this article, Download Your TurboTax Software Purchase, for instructions on downloading TurboTax.
- Click the Start button on Windows taskbar on your desktop.
- Type %temp% into the dialog box and press Enter.
- This opens the Temp folder, with a list of files and folders. We will come back to this later.
- Go back to the desktop and find the icon for TurboTax that you downloaded in the above steps.
- Double-click the TurboTax icon on your desktop.
- If you receive a User Account Control message asking, “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” select Yes.
- Close any error windows that open.
- Go back to the Temp folder window.
- In the Temp folder window you will see a new folder which begins with ckz_. You can sort the list by date/time to see the new folder. You can open the folder to verify it's the TurboTax folder by noting that it contains TurboTax related items.
- Right click the new folder in the Temp window that begins with ckz_.
- Select “Copy”.
- On the Windows taskbar on your desktop, click Start, and then select Computer. This will open the Computer window.
- Right click on the Local Disk (C:) icon and select “Paste”
- Go back to the "Welcome to TurboTax" screen, and select “Cancel”.
- Go to the Computer window and double click on the Local Disk (C:) icon.
- Find the folder that you pasted here that starts with ckz_. Right click the folder, select “Rename” and change the name of the folder to Tax
- On the Windows taskbar on your desktop, click Start, and then select All Programs then select Accessories then select Run.
- In the Open field, type C:\tax\setup.exe /s
- Click OK
- If you receive a User Account Control message asking, “Do you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer?” select “Yes”.
