- Download XP Service Pack 3 from http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=24 onto your desktop.
- Go to the Control Panel and select Add or Remove Programs.
- In the Add or Remove Programs window, locate Windows XP Service Pack 3 and uninstall (remove) it. (If this option is unavailable, then disregard this step.)
- Re-install XP Service Pack 3 from the download you placed on your desktop in step 1.
- Run TurboTax.
- Re-enable your antivirus/backup software.

- Go to Start and then the Control Panel.
- Select View By, then choose Category in Win7 or Classic View in Vista.

- Double-click Administrative Tools.

- Double-click Services.
- Right-click Intuit Update Service v4 and Select Stop.
- Right-click Intuit Update Service (if present) and select Stop.
- Close the Services, Administrative Tools, and Control windows.
Now perform the following sequence of steps as indicated in the series of figures below to resolve the issue:
