Error 1316: "MSI Install Exception occurred"

The following error occurs when attempting to install TurboTax:

Error 1316: MSI Install Exception occurred

This error can occur if a previous installation of TurboTax is damaged.

Solution

If you are running Windows Vista, try right-clicking the TurboTax icon and select Run as Administrator.

If that didn't work, or if you're not running Vista, make sure you've logged in to Windows as administrator, and then follow the "flush command" steps in the article Forcefully Uninstall and Reinstall TurboTax.

The flush command steps are located after Step 7 (for the TurboTax CD) and Step 15 (for the TurboTax Download).
