Downloading a new or updated copy of Windows Installer can be used to resolve certain installation issues. Click your version of Windows for instructions.
Windows 7 – Currently, there is no version of Windows Installer that is "newer" than the version that came with the original Windows 7 release.
Windows Vista and Windows XP SP3
Download and install Windows Installer 4.5:
- Go to the Windows Installer 4.5 download page.
- Click Instructions.

- Find the appropriate download file for your system.

- Scroll down, find the download file in the list, and then click Download.

- Restart your computer.
- Update TurboTax.
Note: If the problem still persists after you've followed these steps,
Microsoft KB 315346 provides steps to re-register Windows Installer. These steps modify your system registry. First back up your registry (
Microsoft KB 322756), and then carefully follow the steps.
Windows XP SP2
Download and install Windows Installer 3.1:
- Go to the Windows Installer 3.1 download page.
- Click Download files below.

- Next to WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe, click Download.

- Restart your computer.
- Update TurboTax.
