Download Windows Installer

Downloading a new or updated copy of Windows Installer can be used to resolve certain installation issues. Click your version of Windows for instructions.

Windows 7 – Currently, there is no version of Windows Installer that is "newer" than the version that came with the original Windows 7 release.

Windows Vista and Windows XP SP3

Download and install Windows Installer 4.5:

Go to the Windows Installer 4.5 download page.
Click Instructions.
Find the appropriate download file for your system.
Scroll down, find the download file in the list, and then click Download.
Restart your computer.
Update TurboTax.

Note: If the problem still persists after you've followed these steps, Microsoft KB 315346 provides steps to re-register Windows Installer. These steps modify your system registry. First back up your registry (Microsoft KB 322756), and then carefully follow the steps.

Download and install Windows Installer 3.1:

Go to the Windows Installer 3.1 download page.
Click Download files below.
Next to WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe, click Download.
Restart your computer.
Update TurboTax.
