When attempting to install TurboTax 2011 you encounter a message stating "TurboTax 2011 Installer Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close."
We are releasing a fix for this issue and expect it to be resolved as of January 5. Please try reinstalling the product after this update has been released.
In the meantime, please try this workaround:
If you're using a CD/desktop version, please follow these steps:
- Open My Computer, right-click your CD drive with the TurboTax disk in it, and click "Explore", then go to the “Prerequisites” folder.
- Double-click on “dotNetFx40_setup.exe” and wait for this to complete. If you already have .NET 4.0 on your computer, then this program will prompt you to repair or remove. Click “Cancel” and proceed to the next step.
- Now go to the “TurboTax 2011” folder that is located just above “Prerequisites.”
- Install TurboTax by double-clicking on “TurboTax 2011 Installer.exe” Note: It’s possible that you won’t see the “.exe” extension on the files above, so just double-click on the file without the extension.
If you're using the download version, please follow these steps:
- Click on Start. If on Windows XP, then you’ll also need to click on “Run.”
- Enter “%TEMP%” then hit Enter. This will display the contents of the %TEMP% folder in Windows Explorer.
- Go into the newest folder that has the name that starts with “ckz_...”. This folder is where the TurboTax download product has been extracted.
- Go to the folder “Prerequisites” folder on the CD.
