Illinois 2011: Property Tax Credit on Principal Residence

Illinois homeowners who paid property taxes on their principal residence may be allowed to reduce their Illinois tax.
Certain customers, who paid property taxes and claimed a credit on their second home, may have filed an incorrect Illinois tax return.
TurboTax has fixed this issue.
How to tell if you may be impacted
You may be affected if ALL of the following are true:
- You filed your 2011 Illinois tax return before February 21, 2012 AND
- Your federal tax return included a Form 1098 (Mortgage Interest Statement) with an amount in Box 5 (Property tax) for a second home AND
- You have an amount on Schedule ICR (Illinois Credits), Line 4a (Illinois Property Tax paid)
If you are affected, you may have underpaid your Illinois tax. You may need to amend your Illinois tax return.

- After you make the changes to your tax return, you will need to mail a copy of your amended state return.
