IRS Notice CP05: Important Information About Combat Zone Deferment
We have been informed that some taxpayers have received IRS Notice CP05 regarding "Important Information About Combat Zone Deferment". The notice mentions that your tax return is being reviewed and your refund will be delayed. In some instances, the notice has been sent to taxpayers who are not in the military or did not report combat pay on their tax return.

We have been informed by the IRS that if you have received this notice, even if you did not report any combat pay tax deferment on your return, to please follow the instructions provided in the notice to contact the IRS or Taxpayer Advocacy Service for assistance.
It is possible that your return may be under review but not specifically for combat pay tax deferment. Contacting the IRS will help with understanding the reason for the notice and if there is any action needed on your part. When you call, you will need to to provide Your Caller ID number, which is located in the upper right of the notice.
