Transferring from TurboTax for iPad to your Computer

TurboTax for iPad supports file sharing through iTunes. This means you can create your 2011 tax return in TurboTax for iPad then copy it to your computer because you want to back up your tax file after you have e-filed or you want to continue preparing your return on your desktop.

Here's how to easily move your 2011 tax return file from your iPad to your computer.

To transfer then access your tax return on your iPad or your computer, you need:

• iPad with the following installed app:
  
  • TurboTax for iPad running iOS 4.3 or later
• USB cable to connect your iPad to your computer
• Desktop computer with the following installed software:
  • iTunes 10.1.1 or later (to support TurboTax for iPad file sharing)
  • Mac
    • Mac OS 10.5.8 or later
    • TurboTax 2011 - CD/Download for Mac
  • PC
    • Windows XP, Vista or 7 (For more info, see TurboTax for Windows 2011 Windows requirements.)
    • TurboTax 2011 - CD/Download for Windows

Basically, there are two ways to export your tax return from TurboTax for iPad...

1. Tap Save .tax to iTunes - or -
2. Tap Export icon (Send to iTunes)

Export Method #1

1. On your iPad, in the TurboTax for iPad app, go to the Preview and Save Your Tax Return screen in the Print & File section.
   
2. Tap Save .tax to iTunes.
3. In the Exporting Files dialogue box, tap OK.
4. In the File Exported dialogue box, tap OK.
5. Connect your iPad to your computer with the USB cable.
6. On your computer, launch iTunes.
7. In iTunes, under Devices (left-hand menu), select your iPad.
   
8. Select the Apps button (top row).
9. Scroll down to the File Sharing section.
10. In the Apps column, click on TurboTax 2011.
11. Under TurboTax 2011 Documents, your exported tax return will appear.
12. Select your tax return and click Save to.
13. In the window, select where you want to save your tax file on your computer.
14. Your tax file is now transferred to your computer.

Export Method #2

1. On the Home screen (Manage Returns), tap the Export icon (Send to iTunes).
   
2. In the Exporting Files dialogue box, tap OK.
3. In the File Exported dialog box, tap OK.
4. Connect your iPad to your computer with the USB cable.
5. On your computer, launch iTunes.
6. In iTunes, under Devices (left-hand menu), select your iPad.
   
7. Select the Apps button (top row).
8. Scroll down to the File Sharing section.
9. In the Apps column, click on TurboTax 2011.
10. Under TurboTax 2011 Documents, your exported tax return will appear.
11. Select your tax return and click Save to.
12. In the window, select where you want to save your tax file on your computer.
13. Your tax file is now transferred to your computer.
