Open Your Tax Return in the TurboTax CD/Download Software

This article describes how to open your tax return file in TurboTax CD/Download software. If you're looking to access a TurboTax Online return, click here instead.

Never double-click your tax return file to open it, as this can sometimes result in Error 539. Instead, always open your return from inside the TurboTax program.

To open your tax return, start TurboTax and then do one of the following:

• On the Continue Your 2011 Tax Return screen, click the blue Continue button for the return you want to open.
  • If you don't see your return listed here, click the Find a Tax File link, browse to your return, and then open it.
• Or, choose Open Tax Return from the TurboTax File menu (Windows) or the TurboTax menu (Mac). Browse to your return and open it.

If your return is stored on a CD or flash drive, always copy it to your hard drive first, and then open the copy on your hard drive. This helps prevent data corruption. More info
