Can I delete my tax return in TurboTax Online?
Well ... yes and no. It all depends upon what you mean by "delete".
If you haven't completed your tax return yet, you can clear your federal and state tax information. This removes all of your tax return data from our servers and cannot be reversed. You also have the option to delete just the state tax return, but again, only if you haven't completed it yet.
What do we mean by a completed return? These are TurboTax Online returns that were paid for by credit or debit card, refund processing services, or pre-paid code, or were registered through the Freedom Edition website.
On the other hand, once you've completed your TurboTax Online tax return, you can no longer clear or delete it. After the mid-October TurboTax Online shutdown, we start archiving all completed returns (except Free Edition returns) as PDF files.
Formerly, it was possible for you to delete these PDF copies of your return, but we removed that functionality recently so that you don't accidentally – and permanently – delete the filed copy of your tax return.
