What happened to Form 8453-OL, the IRS e-file signature form?

You may remembering having to sign and mail Form 8453-OL to the IRS after e-filing a tax return in the past. Starting in tax year 2008, the IRS eliminated this form.

Nowadays, when you e-file using any online software program, you're required to electronically sign your return.

However, if you're required to send supporting documents to the IRS after you e-file, you'll need to include IRS Form 8453 (not to be confused with the discontinued Form 8453-OL). TurboTax will let you know if you need to send this form, along with any supporting documents.
