Important Information for Early E-filers
The IRS begins processing e-filed 2012 tax returns on the morning of Wednesday, January 30, 2013. More info
If you e-filed on or before this date, keep in mind that it will take several days for the IRS to work through the enormous backlog of early-filed returns.
Your return will most likely sit in pending status until several days after this date, which means you won't receive a definitive accepted or rejected e-file status right away. How to check your e-file status.
State e-file processing generally follows the same schedules as the IRS, so if you also e-filed your state return prior to January 30, you should also adjust your expectations for your e-filing processing date.
What about tax refunds or scheduled tax payments?
Your estimated refund date is calculated from the date the IRS accepts your return – not the date you e-filed it.
Similarly, if you scheduled an early January date to pay your taxes, your payment will not be processed until January 30, at the earliest.
