Error: "Incomplete Tax Return - All of the following lines have a zero value"
When attempting to e-file your return, you receive an error similar to this one:
Incomplete Tax Return
All of the following lines of Form 1040 have a zero value:
Line 22 - Total income
Line 37 - Adjusted gross income
Line 44 - Tax
Line 54 - Total credits
Line 60 - Total tax
Line 72 - Total payments
We can't transmit your return because it contains incomplete information.
If you are filing a different main form (Form 1040-EZ or Form 1040A), the line numbers and items will differ from the above, but the message is the same.
Explanation
This usually happens when you have no taxable income. Without taxable income, you cannot e-file; in fact, you don't need to file a tax return, period. Find out if you need to file.
Less commonly, this situation occurs when attempting to file an unfinished return. Click the Personal Info tab and proceed through the interview. Make sure you run the Analysis on the Review tab before you file your return.
