Message: "Form W-2 (Untitled): Employer zip must be entered" during Final Review

When going through the Final Review on the TurboTax Wrap-Up tab, you receive the following message:

Check This Entry
Form W-2 (Untitled): Employer zip must be entered

If you ignore the message and click Continue, the next screen says Form W-2 (Untitled): Employer state must be entered.

However, you do not have any W-2 forms to enter, only 1099 forms.

Solution

This can happen if you click through the W-2 interview screens without entering any information. TurboTax creates a blank W-2 placeholder, which later generates error messages.

Fortunately, this is easy to fix:

  1. Click the Federal Taxes tab (Personal tab if using Home & Business) and continue to the Your 2012 Income Summary screen.
  2. Click the Update button in the Wages and Salaries section.
  3. On the W-2 Summary screen, click the Delete button to the right of Untitled, and click Yes on the next screen to confirm.
  4. You'll be back on the W-2 Summary screen. Repeat the previous step for any other Untitled W-2 entries, until all are gone.
  5. Click Done.
