How to Correct Easy Extension E-filing Rejection (Error 0022)

If you filed a TurboTax Easy Extension and it is rejected, it could be because you did NOT select your state when filling out the Personal Info section of the extension.

Your rejection notice, typically sent within 48 hours, could state that there is an error (IRS error 0022)

NOTE: You could be impacted if you are using the Easy Extension app on your cell phone to apply for Easy Extension.

Solution

If you are using a computer:

Simply go back to the Easy Extension application and select your state (a two-character abbreviation) from the drop-down list, shown below. (You must select a state even if you are not filing a state tax return.)

If you are using your cell phone app:

Use a computer to file your Easy Extension, rather than your phone. Be sure to select your state as in the example below.

Then e-file again.

Should you be unable to e-file, just print and mail your extension by the deadline of April 15.
