Your e-filed return is rejected with error codes 0512, F8863-512, or F8863-513-02, along with this explanation:
On Form 8863, the student's social security number and last name does not match the IRS's records. The IRS receives this information from the Social Security Administration.
How to resolve this error
This rejection error is issued by the IRS server.
- Go back to the Personal Info tab and proceed to the Let's Review Your Personal Info screen.
- Click the Edit button for the first taxpayer and step through the screens to make sure that the taxpayer's information exactly matches the information on his/her social security card.
- Repeat the previous step for any other taxpayer and/or dependents. If necessary, make corrections and re-submit.
If the information is correct, you'll need to print and mail your return.
