Who claims the student loan interest deduction?

The right to claim a student loan interest deduction goes to the person who is legally obligated to pay principal and interest on the qualified student loan. However, if that person is you and you're being claimed as a dependent on your parent's return, neither you nor your parent can claim the student loan interest deduction.
