Form 1098-T - Tuition Statement
What is Form 1098-T?
If you had qualified education-related expenses, you should receive Form 1098-T: Tuition Statement from your educational institution.
Eligible educational institutions are required to mail Form 1098-T to each student (at the student’s permanent address), by January 31st.
Commonly used boxes on this form include:
- Box-1 Payments received for qualified tuition and related expenses
- Box-2 Amounts billed for qualified tuition and related expenses
- Box-5 Scholarships or grants
Where do I enter Form 1098-T information in TurboTax?
Information from Form 1098-T is entered in the Deductions & Credits section of the interview, under the topic Education. Follow these directions to jump directly to the entry screen.
In desktop versions:
- Go to the search window next to Find (upper right of screen),
- Type 1098-T in the field, click on 1098-T tuition payments,
- You will come to the "Education Expenses" screen, follow prompts,
- You will get to "Let's Work on Any 1098-Ts for You" screen Click Yes.
In online versions:
- Click the Tools button in the upper right corner,
- Select Topic Search,
- In the search window, type form 1098-T in the field, select the tuition payments topic from the list, and click Go,
- You will come to the "Education Expenses" screen, follow prompts.
Where do I enter scholarship income?
Taxable income from scholarships, fellowships, or grants are entered in the Income section of the interview, under the topic Less Common Income. Follow these directions to jump directly to the entry screen.
In desktop versions:
- Go to the search window next to Find (upper right of screen),
- Type scholar, click on scholarship topic,
- You will come to the "Taxable Scholarships and Fellowships" screen, follow prompts.
In online versions:
- Click the Tools button in the upper right corner,
- Then select Topic Search,
- In the search window, type scholar in the field, select either scholarship topic from the list, and click Go,
- You will come to the "Taxable Scholarships and Fellowships" screen, follow prompts.

What if I don't receive my 1098-T?
If you do not receive your 1098-T by February 15th follow these steps:
- Contact your university to find out if it is available on-line or
- Go to the Tax Credit Reporting Service (TCRS) student site @ http://www.1098-T.com and follow the prompts.
