How to Enter a Donation of Inherited Stock in TurboTax

If you want to report the donation of a stock you inherited, you'll need to follow steps that are different from entering the donation of a stock you purchased.

1. Do NOT select Enter Stock.
2. Select Enter Items (instead of Enter Stock).
3. Click Continue and enter the donation date.
4. Next, when we ask about the donation type, choose either publicly or non-publicly traded stock.
5. On the screen titled Purchase Information, choose Inheritance under How Acquired. Next to the Purchase Price, click on the link Explain This link to learn more about how to value your donation.
