Does the order of the names on a joint return matter?

It only matters if you filed a joint return last year with your current husband or wife. In that case, the IRS specifically requests that you enter your names and Social Security numbers in the same order as last year's return.
Otherwise, if this is the first time you're filing a joint return with your spouse, enter your names in any order you want!
