Some Bank of America customers may experience an endless loop in refund screens after entering certain routing numbers. Here's how to workaround this issue.
Routing Numbers
If you are a Bank of America customer and you entered one of the following bank account routing numbers for direct deposit of your tax refund, you may experience an endless loop in refund screens.
- 122000661 (Southern California)
- 011900571 (Connecticut)
- 063000047 (Florida)
- 101000035 (Virginia)
- 113000023 (South Texas)
- 111000025 (North Texas)
- 071103619 (Chicago, Illinois)
Note: The routing numbers listed above are used by Bank of America to process paper checks only. The bank will reject any electronic deposit of funds using the above numbers.
Workarounds
Follow these steps for your version of TurboTax.
- For TurboTax Online, you will eventually be kicked out (logged out) of the program.
- For TurboTax Windows products, the program will hang and be unresponsive.
- Close TurboTax by entering CTRL+W (Close the current window) or by clicking on the window X.
- For TurboTax Mac products, the program will hang and be unresponsive.
- Close TurboTax by choosing Apple menu > Force Quit or by pressing Command-Option-Esc.
- In the pop-up window, select TurboTax.
- Now click Force Quit.
After Exiting TurboTax
- After you exit TurboTax, relaunch it (CD/download) or log back in (online).
- Important: Answer No to anything that asks if you would like to go back to your previous screen or open previously-viewed tabs.
- Walk back through File to edit and enter your routing number prior to e-filing. You may need to click the Edit button on the state summary screen.
- Go through the interview screens until you are asked to select your refund method again, then choose Direct Deposit to a bank account.
- Change the routing number or delete it.
- For help, go to the Bank of America Web site for help with finding good routing numbers that you can use for direct deposit.
- You will need the ACH electronic direct deposit routing number.
- Your new routing number cannot be one of the bad ones listed above.
- The correct routing number is not the one listed on your printed check.
- Select Continue.
- Select Back
- At this point, you can change your choice of refund method, if you wish.
