Kentucky 2010: Charitable Contributions Carryover
Taxpayers, who deduct charitable contributions on their tax returns, may be limited in deducting the total amount in a tax year. If so, they have a charitable contribution amount that is carried over to next year’s tax return.
Certain TurboTax customers, who had charitable contributions from 2009 carried over to their 2010 tax return, may have an incorrect Kentucky return. Their federal tax return is correct.
This issue has been fixed.
How to tell if you are impacted:
You may be affected if ALL of the following are true:
- You filed your Kentucky tax return prior to March 11, 2011 AND
- You had a carryover of charitable contributions on your 2010 Kentucky tax return (see Kentucky Schedule A, line 18.)
If you are affected, you may have overpaid your Kentucky tax. You will need to amend your Kentucky tax return.
