Error 1109 when opening tax return

Error 1109 occurs when attempting to open (continue) a tax return in TurboTax for Windows desktop software. The program then closes.

This error is caused by damaged or corrupted program files.

Solution

To resolve this issue:

  1. Uninstall TurboTax.
  2. Browse to the TurboTax [version] 20XX folder (replace [version] with Basic, Deluxe, etc., and XX with the calendar year) The default path to this folder is C:\Program Files\TurboTax.
  3. Right-click the folder, choose Delete, and then click Yes or OK to confirm.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Reinstall TurboTax.
