Error 1305: Error reading from file

Error 1305: Error reading from file (followed by the filename) occurs when updating TurboTax.

Possible Causes

  • You're not logged in as an administrator.
  • An anti-virus, anti-malware, firewall, desktop search or backup program is interfering with Windows Installer.
  • One or more program files have been corrupted or otherwise modified, and the original installation package or media is not readable.

Solution

  1. Restart your computer.
  2. Log in as a computer administrator.
  3. Exit all running programs, including virus-protection and firewall programs.

Remember to re-enable your security software after you've successfully installed or updated TurboTax.
