"Unexpected Error" when updating TurboTax

One of the following errors is displayed when updating TurboTax:

  • Intuit.Spc.Esd.WinClient.Api.GeneralException: The persistent store C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Common\Update Service\v2\Global\ Global.db' has not been installed...

    OR

  • Intuit.Spc.Esd.WinClient.Api.GeneralException: The persistent store 'C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Common\Update Service\v2\Global\Global.db' has not been installed...

Solution

To resolve this error:

  1. Navigate to the Global folder:
    • Windows 7 or Vista: C:\ProgramData\Intuit\Common\Update Service\v2\Global\
    • Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Intuit\Common\Update Service\v2\Global\

    Note: The Application Data or Program Data folders might be hidden. You can unhide them by clicking here and following the instructions.

  2. Right-click the Global.db file and select Rename.
  3. Change the name to Global.old.db.
  4. Launch TurboTax and try updating again.
