Minnesota: K-12 Education Expense Subtraction Incorrect for Some Customers

For certain Minnesota customers, the K-12 Education Expense subtraction (MN Form M-1, line 7) may be incorrect.
The issue was fixed on February 15, 2011.
How to tell if you are impacted
You are affected if ALL of the following are true:
- You filed (or submitted for filing) a Minnesota return prior to February 15, 2011 AND,
- You claimed education expenses for more than one child on Minnesota Form M-1, line 7 AND,
- The amount claimed for one or more children was less than the maximum allowed ($1,625 for grades K-6; $2,500 for grades 7-12) AND,
- The amount claimed for any additional child was more than the maximum allowed ($1,625 for grades K-6; $2,500 for grades 7-12)
If you are affected, you may have underpaid your Minnesota tax and will need to amend your Minnesota tax return.
What to do if you are affected
