Amending a 2009 Kansas Return: Joint Homeowners and Energy Credit Error

Amend your Kansas 2009 tax return

Important: Follow these steps only after you've amended your federal forms. If you've not amended your federal forms, please follow the steps in the Amending a 2009 Return: Joint Homeowners and Energy Credit Error Knowledge Article first before using the steps outlined below.
 

To amend your Kansas 2009 tax return:

  1. Open your Kansas return.
  2. Find the amended return section:
    1. Click on Topic List. TurboTax Users: Click on Tools>Topic List.
    2. Scroll down to State Taxes/ Kansas/ State Interview/ Revisit Your Kansas Info/ General Information/ Taxes and Credits/ Other Forms You May Need/ Other Forms/ Amended Return (Form K 40).
    3. Click on Amended Return (Form K 40)
  3. Select Amended Federal Return on the Amend Return Reason window. Read and Follow the Amended Return Instructions then continue.
  4. In the Amended Return Payment/ Refund Amount screen, do one of the following:
    1. If you have a tax due on your original return, enter the amount of tax due you have paid on line labeled Amount Paid with Previous Return.
    2. If you have a refund on your original return, enter the amount you have received on line labeled Amount Refunded with Previous Return.

Print your amended Kansas 2009 tax return

To print your amended Kansas 2009 tax return:

TurboTax 2009 Desktop users

  1. Click on the File tab.
  2. Click on Print/Save for Your Records.
  3. Click the Print Return button.
  4. In the Print window, under the Item(s) to print section, select All official forms required for filing.
  5. In the Print window, under the What will print section, clear the Form 1040: Individual checkbox.
  6. Select the Kansas Individual checkbox. If you filed multiple states, clear the checkboxes for the other states. Only Kansas Individual should be selected.
  7. Click the Print button and follow the on-screen directions.
  8. Do not mail any forms that say Keep for your records.
  9. You do not need to attach copies of income statements, such as a W-2 or a 1099.

TurboTax Online users

  1. Click on the File tab.
  2. Click on Print/Save for Your Records.
  3. On the Print and Save Center screen, click on the Print Returns button.
  4. In the Print window, under the Item(s) to print section, select All official forms required for filing.
  5. In the Print window, under the What will print section, clear the Form 1040: Individual checkbox.
  6. Select the Kansas Individual checkbox. If you filed multiple states, clear the checkboxes for the other states. Only Kansas Individual should be selected.
  7. Click the Print button and follow the on-screen directions.
  8. Do not mail any forms that say Keep for your records.
  9. You do not need to attach copies of income statements, such as a W-2 or a 1099.
