How to Amend (Update or Correct) a 2011 Tax Return
If you've filed your 2011 return, but need to add a W-2 or a new form you've received, you'll need to amend (correct) your tax return.
You can do this ONLY if both of these are true:
- You've already filed, and
- You've received confirmation, if you e-filed, from the IRS or state taxing agency that your return was accepted.
Note: You cannot email your amended federal and/or state returns. You must mail them. The mailing addresses you'll need will print out with your returns.
The IRS takes eight to 12 weeks to process amended returns. State timelines vary.
To get started amending your return, please see this helpful video:
If you filed using TurboTax Online:

- On a screen that says "Welcome Back," look under "We can help you . . ." and select Amend a return that was filed and accepted.
If you filed using TurboTax Desktop/CD/Download version:
- Open your return.
- Under the Federal Taxes tab, select Other Tax Situations, then Amend a Return.
