How to Amend (Correct or Update) a 2010 Tax Return
You can amend a tax return you've already filed to fix an error or to take an additional credit or deduction.
You can do this ONLY if you have:
- Already filed, and
- Received confirmation from the IRS or state taxing agency that your return was accepted, and
- Received a refund or paid your balance due
Note: You must mail your amended federal and/or state return. The mailing addresses you'll need will print out with your returns.
The IRS takes eight to 12 weeks to process amended returns. State timelines vary.
If you filed your original return using TurboTax Online, please see the important note below, before you begin amending.
If you filed using TurboTax CD/download, please proceed directly to the instructions below.
Important: Each year, TurboTax Online shuts down in conjunction with the IRS e-filing shutdown, right after the mid-October tax filing deadline. So TurboTax Online for 2010 is no longer available.
You can still amend your return -- you'll just have to use our 2010 download product.
Please follow these instructions.
Then return here to learn how to amend your return.
